Discussion of lyrics (Workhouse Boy, Flandyke Shore, etc) and guitar tunings of Nic Jones' songs is the main interest at The Mudcat Cafe. Another heated topic of conversation has been on the non-availability of Nic's work.© 1997 1998 1999 2000The route by which CELTIC MUSIC aquired the back-cataolgue of Nic Jones (and other artists of that period) seems to be as follows:
Bandoggs, From The Devil To A Stranger, etc., and other early albums were released by Trailer, which was owned by Bill Leader. (Hence also the 'Leader' brand of albums from that period).When new-comers to the Mudcat discussion threads innocently ask where thay may purchase Nic's work, much vitriol is poured out against CELTIC MUSIC.But Transatlantic were the distributors for Trailer and for about 11 records 'Trailer' records were recorded on Transatlantic with the catalogue number beginning LTRA. The copyrights stayed with Trailer.
When Trailer went bust, the copyrights passed to Highway Records. Highway actually re-issued a select few of the recordings (Bandoggs, Nic Jones etc) before they too either went under or sold up. Celtic Music then bought the rights to the entire 'Trailer-Leader' back-catalogue and duely took possession of the stock of vinyl albums. The word from Celtic Music used to be something along the lines ' we won't issue CDs until all the vinyl stocks are sold ' However, as of 2007, from email correspondence is it clear that some of Nic's early albums are now appearing in CD format.

Thread 49544This thread introduced the fact that CDs and MP3s of Nic Jones' early work are available (in a round-about sort of way).
Be aware that CD-R is not a long-life medium, being a dye-based product.
- Rhapsody is a subscription service ($10/month) which is supposed to have MP3s for download for all Nic Jones vinyls. I haven't checked this out myself, since you have to pay up to see their catalogue. However, royalties are paid, but to whom isn't clear.
- Beatmerchant apparently will burn Nic Jones' vinyls onto CD-R though this doesn't seem to be explicitly stated on the site.
- Celtic Music itself is apparently also burning Nic's work to CD-R, and such CD-Rs have seen on sale in Germany of all places.
