Thumb-nail sketch:

Jo Freya plays in frantically boisterous Ceilidh bands but I didn't know that when I purchased the beautifully tranquil TRADITIONAL SONGS album. Really, the adjective multi-talented needs to be sprinkled liberally on this web page 2 Jo has been saxaphone-playing member of Blowzabella and currently the Old Swan Band.  Her Singing with sister Fi (The Fraser Sisters) is enchanting, and often they appear together at folk festivals.

Jo Freya's saxophones add a hot jazzy tone to Blowzabella's work, which is basically bagpipe music keeping alive the old traditions of Flemish, Breton and Celtic music. Jo Freya's vocals on "La Belle C'est Endormir" are bittersweet, and the folk tunes are lively and never dated. They also extend the ancient into the future on cuts like "Bean field/Monster Cafe," eight minutes of electro- Breton rhythms played out on acoustic instruments.
